Schematic of negative refraction. Incident ray refracts negatively at the interface of positive index medium and negative index medium. In the negative index material, wavevector \( \left(\overrightarrow{\boldsymbol{k}}\right) \) and Poynting vector \( \left(\overrightarrow{\boldsymbol{S}}\right) \) have opposite directions in the NIM while they are parallel in the positive index medium
