From: Membrane-wrapped nanoparticles for photothermal cancer therapy

Scheme 1

A Photothermal therapy involves the delivery of NPs into tumors, followed by laser irradiation to induce NP heating leading to cancer cell death. B Traditional PEG- or ligand-modified NPs distribute non-specifically throughout the body, and low tumor accumulation may lead to insufficient PTT effects. C Coating photoresponsive NPs with cell-derived membranes enhances their tumor accumulation, increasing the efficacy of PTT upon light irradiation.
